A conversation with Sarah Moriarty on Miro as an equitable, inclusive learning space for differentiated learning
by Sarah Moriarty and Rod Cullen
Sarah Moriarty is a Senior Lecturer in Product Design specialising in designing inclusive and active learning experiences on Miro. With a background in exploring design process delivery on Miro with COIL communities, Sarah designs and embeds learning experiences throughout the Product Design undergraduate programme to immerse students into project contexts, enhancing student engagement through scaffolded support and collaboration.
Dr Rod Cullen is Reader in Digital Education based in the Digital Education Team, Principal Fellow of AdvanceHE and a Lead Innovation Scholar.
In this video podcast series, Rod talks with colleagues across Manchester Met about how they are implementing the DELTA strategy in their teaching. Each episode features a conversation about flexible active learning in practice, covering what works, what’s challenging, and how digital tools can help students balance their studies with their lives outside university.
Sarah Moriarty and Rod Cullen discuss the use of Miro, an online digital whiteboard that is in the university’s Apps for Teaching and Learning Toolkit. Sarah explains how experiences of using Miro during the COVID-19 pandemic to replicate the “Studio” pedagogy approach that prevails in the teaching of Product Design have informed her approaches ever since. She describes how Miro has enabled the creation of what she considers to be an equitable, inclusive learning space for differentiated learning as well as experience. In a wide-ranging conversation, Sarah shares her experiences of developing COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) programmes, curriculum co-design and development, and flexible active learning aligned with the principles of DELTA strategy and set within our learning spaces framework.
